BPC-157 is a synthetic peptide composed of fifteen amino acid residues, with the sequence Gly-Glu-Pro-Pro-Pro-Gly-Lys-Pro-Ala-Asp-Asp-Ala-Gly-Leu-Val. Its name derives from body protection compound, a term used for a protein fraction identified in human gastric juice. Researchers in Zagreb first reported the pentadecapeptide in the early 1990s and described it as a stable fragment of that larger protein. The compound is also catalogued as PL 14736 and, in some commercial contexts, as bepecin. Its molecular formula is C62H98N16O22 and its monoisotopic mass is approximately 1419 daltons.
Most published work on BPC-157 consists of preclinical studies, including rodent models of tissue injury, gastrointestinal lesions, and vascular or tendon damage, together with in vitro cell assays. Reviews frequently note that the mechanisms proposed in these papers remain incompletely characterised and that findings have not been confirmed in large randomised human trials. The compound is widely sold as a research chemical rather than a licensed medicine, and labels commonly carry a statement that it is not for human use. Whether any of the reported animal effects translate to humans is an open question rather than an established result.
Terminology in the literature is not fully standardised. Papers and product listings use BPC-157, BPC 157, and the longer phrase stable gastric pentadecapeptide BPC 157 interchangeably, and synonyms such as bepecin or PL 14736 appear in older or company-linked publications. Purity claims and reported masses can also differ between sources because peptide preparations may include counterions, residual solvents, or bound water. This variability complicates direct comparison of results across studies and makes the exact identity and grade of a given sample worth verifying. Discussions of the compound should therefore specify the source, salt form, and stated purity where those are known.
Doses in the literature are usually expressed in micrograms or nanograms per kilogram of body weight. Investigators have administered the peptide by several routes, including injection and oral delivery, depending on the question asked. Route and dose vary widely across studies, which complicates direct comparison of results. Many papers report effects at low doses, but the absence of a standardized protocol limits generalization. Reporting practice differs between research groups.
Some properties, such as the peptide's sequence and molecular mass, are firmly established. Other claims, particularly about mechanism and clinical benefit, remain open questions. Proposed mechanisms include effects on nitric oxide signaling and on cell migration, but these are hypotheses supported by limited evidence. Reviewers often note that the field lacks large controlled human trials. Positive animal findings are best treated as signals for further study rather than as settled conclusions.

Within the research literature, the peptide is discussed through several provisional mechanisms, including cytoprotection, modulation of growth factor signaling, and interaction with the nitric oxide system. None of these mechanisms is fully characterized, and no single pathway is universally accepted. Review articles typically note the gap between consistent animal findings and sparse human evidence. The compound is classified as a research chemical rather than an approved pharmaceutical, which shapes how studies are designed, funded, and reported.
BPC-157 is a synthetic pentadecapeptide with the sequence GEPPPGKPADDAGLV, corresponding to a partial fragment of a larger protein detected in human gastric juice. The name derives from the parent protein designation BPC, an abbreviation of body protection compound, with 157 acting as a fraction or batch identifier used by the original investigators. Its molecular weight is approximately 1419 daltons, and the chain contains no unusual residues or disulfide bridges. In the literature it is described as a short, water-soluble fragment rather than a complete natural protein.
Most early work on this peptide originated in the 1990s from a research group in Zagreb, Croatia, relying on animal models and cell cultures. Reported observations included effects on gastrointestinal lesion healing, tendon fibroblast migration, and blood vessel formation under controlled laboratory conditions. These findings come predominantly from rodent studies and in vitro assays rather than from human trials. Controlled human data remain limited, and the degree to which animal results translate to human physiology is an open question rather than a settled fact.
Interest in the peptide has grown through online communities that discuss self-administered use, which sits outside formal research settings. Regulatory status varies by country, and in many jurisdictions the compound is not approved as a therapeutic product. Questions about optimal routes of administration, long-term effects, and dose-response relationships remain open. Published pharmacokinetic data in humans are limited, and much of what circulates in popular discussion is extrapolated from animal work rather than measured directly in people.
BPC-157 is a synthetic peptide built from fifteen amino acids, referred to in the literature as a pentadecapeptide. Its sequence was derived from a larger protein found in human gastric juice, commonly called body protection compound. Researchers first described the fragment in the early 1990s and named it after the parent protein plus a numeric identifier. The peptide does not correspond to a single marketed medicine; it is primarily a laboratory research material. Suppliers distribute it as a lyophilized powder intended for experimental use.
Dry powder is generally stored at low temperature, with minus twenty degrees Celsius or colder advised for extended retention. Reconstituted solutions are less stable than the solid form and are normally kept cold and shielded from repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Light exposure is avoided because some peptides degrade under ultraviolet radiation. The exact rate of degradation depends on concentration, pH, and the presence of salts, so a single shelf life does not apply to every preparation. Reported stability figures should be read as indicative of typical handling rather than as universal constants.
Confirmation of identity and purity relies on standard peptide analysis techniques. Reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography separates the peptide from related impurities and serves as the most common purity assay. Mass spectrometry, often coupled to that chromatography step, provides an accurate molecular mass that can be matched against the expected value. Amino acid analysis or sequencing can be added for further confirmation. Because short peptides can be produced by different synthetic routes, laboratories usually report both a chromatographic purity percentage and a mass confirmation rather than a single figure.
BPC-157 is commonly supplied as a lyophilized powder, a freeze-dried solid that is reconstituted before use in laboratory work. As a short peptide, it dissolves readily in water and in aqueous buffer solutions, and stock solutions are typically prepared in water or a mild buffer. The chain contains several proline and acidic residues, which influence how it behaves in solution. Because the solid can take up moisture, weighing and handling are usually performed under low-humidity conditions. Its solubility class is described as freely soluble in water rather than requiring an organic solvent.
About one year after his retirement from The Price Is Right, Barker appeared in a public service announcement promoting the transition to digital television in the United States. The advertisement was produced under the first proposed date of February 16, 2009, for the transition. He later appeared in a commercial for State Farm Insurance's "Magic Jingle" campaign, where he made "a new car!" appear for a woman whose previous car was totaled by a giant concrete cylinder. In another TV advertisement, Barker endorsed David Jolly, a candidate for the Republican Party nomination for the 2014 Florida's 13th congressional district special election. Jolly won the nomination and ultimately won the seat. Barker was honored after his death with an hour-long TV special celebrating his life. It aired on August 31, 2023.
The reaction is important as a first step in cross-lnking collagen. The enzyme is a non-heme iron protein with ferryl active site where Fe(IV)=O is the species that transfers its oxygen to the substrate. The mechanism used by these 2-oxoglutarate-dependent oxygenases requires 2-oxoglutaric acid to activate the iron oxygen complex, and this gives succinic acid and carbon dioxide when the second atom of the molecular oxygen is removed.
Examples of primary intention include: well-repaired lacerations, well reduced bone fractures, healing after flap surgery. Early removal of dressings from clean or clean-contaminated wounds does affect primary healing of wounds.

As the tepid reaction to the German Anschluss with Austria had shown, the governments of France, the United Kingdom and Czechoslovakia were set on avoiding war at any cost. The French government did not wish to face Germany alone and took its lead from the British government, led by Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain. He contended that Sudeten German grievances were justified and believed that Hitler's intentions were limited. That made Britain and France advise Czechoslovakia to concede to the German demands. Beneš resisted, and on 20 May 1938, a partial mobilisation was under way in response to the possible German invasion. It is suggested that the mobilisation could have been launched on basis of Soviet misinformation about Germany being on verge of invasion, which aimed to trigger war in Western Europe. On 30 May, Hitler signed a secret directive for war against Czechoslovakia to begin no later than 1 October. In the meantime, the British government demanded for Beneš to request a mediator. Not wishing to sever his government's ties with Western Europe, Beneš reluctantly accepted. The British appointed Lord Runciman and instructed him to persuade Beneš to agree to a plan acceptable to the Sudeten Germans. On 2 September, Beneš submitted the Fourth Plan, which granted nearly all of the demands of the Karlsbader Programm. Intent on obstructing conciliation, however, the SdP held demonstrations that provoked the police in Ostrava on 7 September. The Sudeten Germans broke off negotiations on 13 September, and violence and disruption ensued.
In flue-gas desulfurization, exhaust gases from fossil-fuel power stations and other processes (e.g. cement manufacture) are scrubbed to reduce their sulfur dioxide content, by injecting finely ground limestone: SO2 + 0.5 O2 + CaCO3 → CaSO4 + CO2 Related sulfur-trapping methods use lime and some produces an impure calcium sulfite, which oxidizes on storage to calcium sulfate.
Following the dismissal of the Bellido cabinet, the new Vásquez cabinet hoped to replace Bellido's ultra-confrontational approach to Congress with a more conciliatory approach. Prime Minister Mirtha Vásquez held a meeting with members of Congress to negotiate on the question of trust and the presidential impeachment. Vásquez proposed a new version of the question of trust which she claimed would not cause an imbalance of power. However, it became clear that Congress would stick to their own bill. Free Peru's ally, Together for Peru, proposed a bill that would dissolve Congress if the President was impeached for moral or physical incapacity. Following that, new parliamentary elections would be held. The bill failed to pass. On 22 October 2021, the government presented a lawsuit before the Constitutional Court (CT) that Congress' reinterpretation of the question of confidence was unconstitutional. The CT unanimously admitted the case on 28 October 2021. On 2 November 2021, Eloy Espinosa-Saldaña, who was appointed rapporteur of the case, asked Congress to quickly respond to the lawsuit. Meanwhile, the Minister of Justice, Aníbal Torres, claimed that if the CT respected its past judgements, it should declare the unconstitutionality of the law that reinterprets the question of trust. On 16 November 2021, Congress formalized changes that would allow itself to reject a question of confidence as inadmissible if it's not in line with the restrictions previously passed by itself. Said restrictions are currently being challenged in the Constitutional Court.
1. A mobilization of intracellular Ca2+ ions is closely connected with a biological activity of sarafotoxins; 2. The blockers specific to Ca2+ channels, such as verapamil or ninodipine, have no effect on binding capability of 125I-SRTX-b; 3. The hydrolysis of phosphoinositides is induced by binding of SRTXs. Above characteristics suggest that sarafotoxins (and endothelins) use the phosphoinositide signal transduction pathway via specific receptors coupled to G protein, which seems to activate type C and D phospholipases. However, distinct and widespread subtypes of glycosylated receptors are recognized functionally by SRTXs and ETs. As all of the three isoforms of endothelins and sarafotoxins interplay with the same affinity, ETB-R appears less selective than ETA-R. Nonetheless, the variable tissue distribution of the endothelin-binding sites, and the different biological effects demonstrated within different organs, indicate the possibility of an existence of other endothelin/sarafotoxin subtypes of receptors. Therefore, the ability of the Egyptian mongoose to resist very high concentrations of SRTX-b may be due to presence of an additional family of binding sites, located in the cardiovascular tissue, differentiating ET-1 and SRTX-b.
The average 70 kg (150 lb) adult human body contains approximately 7×1027 atoms and contains at least detectable traces of 60 chemical elements. About 29 of these elements are thought to play an active positive role in life and health in humans. The relative amounts of each element vary by individual, mainly due to differences in the proportion of fat, muscle and bone in their body. Persons with more fat will have a higher proportion of carbon and a lower proportion of most other elements (the proportion of hydrogen will be about the same). The numbers in the table are averages of different numbers reported by different references. The adult human body averages ~53% water. This varies substantially by age, sex, and adiposity. In a large sample of adults of all ages and both sexes, the figure for water fraction by weight was found to be 48 ±6% for females and 58 ±8% water for males. Water is ~11% hydrogen by mass but ~67% hydrogen by atomic percent, and these numbers along with the complementary % numbers for oxygen in water, are the largest contributors to overall mass and atomic composition figures. Because of water content, the human body contains more oxygen by mass than any other element, but more hydrogen by atom-fraction than any other element.

Kava or kava kava (Piper methysticum: Latin 'pepper' and Latinized Greek 'intoxicating') is a plant in the pepper family, native to the Pacific Islands. The name kava is from Tongan and Marquesan, meaning 'bitter'. Kava can refer to either the plant or a psychoactive beverage made from its root. The beverage is a traditional ceremonial and recreational drink from Polynesia, Micronesia, and Melanesia. Nakamals and kava bars exist in many countries. Traditional kava is made by grinding fresh or dried kava root, mixing it with water or coconut milk, and straining it into a communal bowl. Outside the South Pacific, kava is typically prepared by soaking dried root powder in water and straining it. It is consumed socially for its psychoactive effects, comparable to those produced by alcohol but without significant cognitive impairment or addiction risk. Kava also produces a numbing sensation in the mouth. Kava consists of sterile cultivars clonally propagated from its wild ancestor, Piper wichmanii. It originated in northern Vanuatu, where it was domesticated by farmers around 3,000 years ago through selective cultivation. Historically, the beverage was made from fresh kava; preparation from dry kava emerged in response to the efforts of Christian missionaries in the 18th and 19th centuries to prohibit the drinking of kava. According to in vitro research, the pharmacological effects of kava stem primarily from six major kavalactones that modulate GABAA, dopamine, norepinephrine, and CB1 receptors, and inhibit MAO-B and ion channel mechanisms.
19 December – With the UK government signalling its willingness to delay local elections due in May 2026 for a year, the Electoral Commission raises concerns about further delays to elections, describing the process as one that is "damaging public confidence". 21 December – The Electoral Commission finds no "credible evidence of potential offences of electoral law" over Nigel Farage's election expenses. Scottish Labour MSP Pam Duncan-Glancy confirms she will not seek re-election to the Scottish Parliament at the 2026 election because she does not want her friendship with a convicted sex offender to "become a distraction". 22 December – Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey writes to the Equalities and Human Rights Commission to ask it to investigate government plans to delay local elections, which could affect as many as 10 million voters. The leader of Plymouth City Council confirms that local elections there will go ahead in May, but local elections in Exeter are still uncertain. 23 December – The UK government announces it is watering down its plans for inheritance tax on farmers, and will raise the threshold from £1m to £2.5m. Local Government Secretary Steve Reed writes to councils in England warning them not to adopt a four-day working week. == Research data == A comparison of the heart mitochondria in rats (7-year maximum life span) and pigeons (35-year maximum life span) showed that pigeon mitochondria leak fewer free-radicals than rat mitochondria, despite the fact that both animals have similar metabolic rate and cardiac output For mammals there is a direct relationship between mitochondrial membrane fatty acid saturation and maximum life span Studies of the liver lipids of mammals and a bird (pigeon) show an inverse relationship between maximum life span and number of double bonds Selected species of birds and mammals show an inverse relationship between telomere rate of change (shortening) and maximum life span Maximum life span correlates negatively with antioxidant enzyme levels and free-radicals production and positively with rate of DNA repair Female mammals express more Mn−SOD and glutathione peroxidase antioxidant enzymes than males. This has been hypothesized as the reason they live longer. However, mice entirely lacking in glutathione peroxidase 1 do not show a reduction in lifespan.

BPC-157 is a synthetic fifteen-amino-acid peptide whose sequence corresponds to a fragment of a protein found in human gastric juice. It is studied mainly in preclinical research and is not an approved pharmaceutical product in major markets. Materials sold for laboratory use are typically labelled as research chemicals.
No medicines regulator in the United States or the European Union has approved BPC-157 as a therapeutic product. Presenting it as a drug or as a dietary supplement ingredient would generally not match its regulatory status. Availability as a research chemical does not imply clinical approval.
Published reports rest largely on animal models and cell culture rather than controlled human trials. Review articles describe the proposed mechanisms as incompletely understood. Conclusions about effects in humans therefore remain tentative.
Human data are limited. Most evidence comes from animal experiments and from small or uncontrolled reports. The absence of large trials means clinical effects and safety are not firmly established.
